Rethink...To live content with small means.
To seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion. To be worthy not respectable, and wealthy not rich. To study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly, to listen to stars, birds, babes, and sages with open heart, to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never. In a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common. This is to be my symphony. ~William Ellery Channing Applause to my good friend Marty Schnure for the awesome work she and Ross Donihue are doing as 'a place-based visual storytelling team' under the name of Maps for Good.
They 'produce maps and visualizations for organizations and individuals who are doing good; that is, whose work is good for communities and good for the planet. [They] create multimedia communication tools that empower and propel our clients' good work. [They] are users of and advocates for the open source movement.'
Both videos were recommended by Richard Boyatzis (professor at Case Western Reserve University) in a MOOC on www.coursera.org called Inspiring Leadership through Emotional Intelligence.
As you are starting your careers, I recommend for everyone (especially women) to watch these clips. Sheryl Sandberg has a few tricks up her sleeve when talking about women and leadership. You can watch Sheryl inspire critical thinking on TED when sharing an inspirational lecture titled 'Why we have too few women leaders'.
